As I sit here bleeding onto the floor, "Problem Child" plays in the background. John Ritter calmly utters "He shot me in the prune...". If only I had been shot in the prune, then maybe I wouldn't have ended up here. Who would have ever known a kangaroo is a marsupial? I am getting ahead of myself. Let me start at the beginning...
Make or Break started in early 2005 by three ambitious youths: Mike C, Matt Pickler, and Charles Chaussinand. The only goal in mind was to be fast, loud and have fun. Mike and Matt grew up in Orlando and had played in Strike Out, a local favorite. Charles had moved to Orlando to attend recording school and sow his wild oats. Minus a drummer, we were set to go. Lyle Pastrami, a close friend and long time comic book collector, jumped at the chance to play second guitar and along with him came our original drummer, Josh. After having only three practices, Charles pressed us to go ahead and record a demo. We recorded the five songs we had and copied the living shit out the demo to pass out all over the place. Like the sword unsheathed from the mighty stone, Charles pulled out the name Make or Break. Perfect fit! The demo was recorded in two afternoon's at a friend's house and came out like most hardcore band's demos normally do, not fully capturing the band's sound and energy. We did an east coast No Fashion, Just Fun tour on our demo with our friends in Wake Up Call and Team Effort. The demo was inexpensive to make and easy for us to duplicate, so we gave all but a few away for nothing. This seems to be an underlying theme in the band; give things away.
Returning from our first tour, we had a line-up change and lost Lyle, only to be left with the sweet symphony of one guitar ringing in our ears. Moving quickly, we got into a real studio to record the songs for "Think About It" CD and the "Down For Life" 7". After an excellent record release show and a ton of awesome shows within the state, we headed out for a winter tour. We got lucky enough to hit the road with our friends again and met up with Wake Up Call, Expired Youth and On The Outside for a week long spree in the snow that we dubbed the "Cold As Ice" tour. After an incident with Kyle On The Outside, a glory hole, a man with a mustache and two gallons of outer wall latex paint coating, we headed back to Florida.
We got back and wasted no time preparing new material and recording songs for the Make or Break / Haunted Life split release. Unfortunately, shortly after recording these songs, our drummer, Josh, had decided he could not do the band anymore and we parted ways. We were sad to see him go, but we lucked out in finding our new drummer, Mike Mosier, at a local record store by total coincidence. Mike Mosier proved to be an incredible drummer as well as friend/snakebite expert and fit in seamlessly to the line-up.
In the summer of 2006, we set out on the road again with our good friends in Cruel Hand and traversed the great white north playing a few Canadian dates and getting to meet some AMAZING people along the way. On the way home (after traveling 6,000+ miles), not even one hour from Orlando, we got a tire blow out that ended in our van being totaled. We'll try our best to make it out to your area as soon as we can. We appreciate the continued support and help from our friends and people we get to meet. See you soon!
